Review process
The review process is carried out in two stages. The first stage involves the evaluation of applicants’ CVs and application responses to establish a shortlist of candidates. The second stage involves virtual interviews with these shortlisted candidates, conducted by small panels of SNF staff based on which position the applicant is interested in.
Applications are evaluated on criteria including their relevance to the position, interest shown by the applicant and the fit between their disposition and the philosophy of the organization, and the potential for the candidate and the team to learn from each other.
The interest we see in working in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors never ceases to inspire us, and we firmly believe that anyone interested should have the opportunity to be considered for an experience in these fields. Our review process reflects this affirmative approach to welcoming interns from all backgrounds and at different points in their professional journeys.
Our work as a foundation and philanthropy more broadly relies on adopting innovative strategies and being intentional about piloting new ideas, and we feel that it’s important to take the same approach here to increase the likelihood that the internship experience reaches those who might most benefit from it and who also might otherwise not have had the opportunity to do so.
In this spirit of innovation, the process is also designed to give opportunities to all candidates, with full faith that all those interested have something valuable to contribute and to learn regardless of whether the process would otherwise have selected their applications. By adding an element of random selection for a small percentage of the cohort, we aim to give everyone interested a chance at participating and help open doors to opportunity for all—a goal that guides all of SNF’s work in our mission to empower humanity.
