The First Palliative Care Inpatient Unit for adult cancer patients in Greece is made possible with the SNF’s Support
Galilee’s new Palliative Care Inpatient Unit will offer free of charge, comprehensive and continuous palliative care to patients with terminal cancer, as well as to their families, thereby assisting them in achieving the best possible quality of life. A specialized interdisciplinary team of health professionals, including doctors, nurses, social workers and a physical therapist, will provide palliative care services to patients, focusing on pain management and providing relief from other distressing symptoms, as well as psychosocial, mental and counseling support to their families.
The SNF’s grant supports equipment needs, both medical and non-medical, at the new facility.
Galilee is a nonprofit organization that was founded by the Holy Diocese of Mesogaias and Lavreotiki, aiming to create a program on Palliative Care for terminally ill cancer patients who reside in the wider region of Eastern Attica. Since March 2010, Galilee, in collaboration with the Anticancer Oncology Hospital "Agios Savvas", has been providing free medical, nursing and psychological support to cancer patients and patients with other terminal illness, while organizing educational seminars on palliative care for health professionals.
