Mobile Medical Units: 100 Missions. 1 Aim.
Highways and rural roads. Hard, winding roads. Dirt roads and steep alleyways. Sea routes among far-flung islands, driving winds, and massive waves. In the seven years since their first mission, the Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) of the nonprofit Regeneration & Progress have traveled many different roads, on land and sea, but they have all led to the same place: helping people.
The MMU team has offered free medical exams and comprehensive care to the inhabitants of Greece’s most isolated mountain villages and remote islands.
The Mobile Medical Units’ visit to Deskati in Grevena marked their 100th mission—and counting. The 100 missions began in 2014 in Kastelorizo, at the initiative of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), and they will continue from here—because the need is still there and because the MMU doctors, nurses, and volunteers never stop wanting to lend a helping hand. And as long as there is need, we at SNF aim to keep supporting the MMUs’ work to ensure access to high-quality health care for all.
