Official Opening of the Exhibition “Age Old Cities: A Virtual Journey from Palmyra to Mosul”, Supported by SNF, at the Institut du Monde Arabe
The inauguration was attended by supporters of the exhibit and the Institut, including representatives of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
With lead support from the SNF, the exhibit aims to immerse the public in the splendors of major centers of world cultural heritage and of ancient civilizations, namely Mosul, in Iraq, Aleppo and Palmyra, in Syria and Leptis Magna, in Libya, and raise awareness for their preservation and protection. Giant screen projections, virtual reality experiences, archival documents and images, and videos and testimonials from local population give life to these historic sites in the Arab World that are under threat or have been destroyed. Visitors journey through space and time to the glorious history of these sites.
The Institut du Monde Arabe was created in 1980 to create a bridge between the East and West, and create durable cultural ties, while cultivating dialogue between the Arab World, France, and Europe, in collaboration with institutions, creators and thinkers from the Arab world.
The exhibit runs from October 10th, 2018, through February 10th, 2019
